Does the Kia Sorento or Chevrolet Equinox get better gas mileage?

Keep in mind the recently announced changes to the Sorento for 2012 could very well tip the scales in it's favor. Direct Injection 2.4L giving the engine more HP and better fuel economy which is listed at 23/32 now with 200ish HP. This is the same engine employed by the Optima, which is quiet and silky smooth when mated with the in-house developed 6-speed automatic.

The 2012's are apparently already on dealers' lots and from what the forums are saying, the GDI 4 is part of a $1,600 "Convenience Package" on the lowest trim. They are saying the EPA sticker says 22 city and 33 hwy for the FWD Sorento auto with the GDI 4. One should always be aware that the highway ratings tests are done at speeds well below what one would normally drive on an Interstate, so most drivers won't see that number on a long trip.

Top 10 things to know about BMW 2011 X5 – Cars Online

Benefits

BMW South Africa released the X5 in 1999, during the heart of the SUV movement. Even then the company acknowledged it didn’t need to build just another cumbersome, truck-based utility vehicle. Instead BMW called the X5 the world’s very first Sports Activity Vehicle, a fancy identify for which is now generally known as the crossover. The difference then and now is that a BMW New Car Dealers utility vehicle should ride and handle like raised variations of the company’s sport sedans. Following a 2007 redesign that saw the X5 grow, BMW is refining the X5 for 2011, adding two turbocharged engines, revising the front suspension for much better handling and adding an eight-speed automatic transmission plus a spate of new features. The end result is a really sporty family hauler that performs better than ever.

#1. It gives plenty of what a family desires in a sporty way.

Being the heaviest BMW, it’s the least sporty, but it’s sportier than just about any other SUV’s in the class. Families will like all-wheel drive security, as well as the space for passengers and cargo, and people will have fun commuting with this effective handler. Prospective buyers looking to reduce gas costs will not give up power when choosing the xDrive35d, and performance-minded lunatics will see how the X5 M matches their goal for serious power and unremitting road grip to a T. Remember, however, that the price of entry is rather high and you will find alternative vehicles which make larger usage of room.

#2. It handles nicely but rides tough.

BMW engineers faced an arduous task in making the X5 handle like a BMW. After all, dependent on engine and equipment it could actually weigh somewhere between 4900 and 5400 lbs. Whilst prior versions handled nicely, the X5 is better still for 2011. That’s because BMW has swapped out the original front strut suspension with a double-wishbone multi-link suspension that comes with inherent ride and handling advantages and enables lighter anti-roll bars and more significant flexibility in shock absorber tuning. The effect is really a SUV able to tackle extremely fast corners just like a smaller sport sedan. The X5 feels very balanced and body roll is kept to a the bare minimum for this kind of high-riding vehicle. Steering is traditional BMW: quick and direct. We find the available Active Steering, which makes the whole ratio quicker at reduced speeds and more slowly at greater speeds, to become predictable and helpful in low-speed maneuvers. The negative effects is a bit of a ride penalty. The X5 is more solid over bumps than the majority of competitors as well as the available 19- and 20-inch tires allow it to be way more. Should you live in the Rustbelt, be sure you can settle for the comfort level before you buy.
