New chain barks at door

May 19--A new pet supply store will join the local mix of retail businesses and bring as many as 10 to 12 jobs to the area sometime in July.

"We've been looking at Seymour for the past couple of years," Bob Angstead with Petsense said. The new store is under construction in the 1000 block of East Tipton Street.

Angstead, president and chief executive officer of the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based firm, said the new 5,856-square-foot store will offer its customers a wide variety of pet supplies including premium foods, flea and tick medication and pet beds and treats. The store also will have a state-of-the-art grooming center, Angstead said.

"We have a great location on Seymour's main street," Angstead said. "We're really excited about opening in Seymour."

The new store is part of what appears to be a growing trend of businesses targeting pets and their caregivers.

Jackson-Jennings Co-op recently built a new farm store on West Tipton Street and renamed it the Jackson-Jennings Farm & Pet store. There's also a new pet store on East Second Street, Pet Plaza, as well as new and expanded dog care and kennels, such as Paws & Claws on West Second Street.

The new Petsense store is part of the company's plans to grow from 39 stores in 2010 to as many as 60 stores by the end of this year, company officials said.

"We've opened six new stores this year and plan to open somewhere between 10 to 15 more depending upon permitting," Angstead said.

Petsense already operates stores in Edinburgh and Marion and is planning stores in Seymour, Logansport, Jasper, Bedford, Lawrenceburg and Michigan City.

Angstead said company officials target smaller, underserved communities.

"It's amazing," Angstead said. "We've found a lot of markets like Seymour. Our prices are extremely competitive. We want to save our customers from having to drive."

The Seymour store is slightly larger than the typical Petsense store. It will be managed by Mike Otte, a Seymour native, who is regional manager for the company's Indiana stores, Angstead said.

Otte, who currently lives in New Whiteland, said many factors including the weather and other potential delays may affect the opening of the store.

"The best estimate is sometime this summer," Otte said "We are looking forward to being a part of the Seymour community."

Angstead said Petsense stores generally need somewhere between 10 and 12 people.

Slogan for small towns, high quality Dog groomer?

My dog groomer (The Paw Wash) was east. in 2007 and I am now moving to a slogan. I need help! We focus on quality over quantity, and we all really dogs love. We are more expensive than cleaners at home, but less expensive / more competition with Petsmart (18 miles). My husband made some suggestions "The premium services at prices small town." I think it must be either more tart or sweet. Moreover, "Welcome Little Stinkers." It is a I think it's just lacking. I listened to "Car Wash" song ideas, it's like I thought that name. But failed. "Hey, get your foot washed today? Not know if people would get the reference lol:) Any suggestions are welcome. I would say to let the words pampered, dog, canine and … that they are names in some of my competitors. Thank you! Dunno if it will help, but the site of my living room is www.thepawwashbedford.com.

Welcome Little Stinkers is funny! What "we know your pet's name "or" the kind of love you would give if you knew how to groom "hahaha. I do not think you should talk about money r prices. Keep it happy and friendly sounding.
